Having grown up in a family of health professionals, I learned early on the joy and fulfillment one receives by providing someone a smile that lasts a lifetime.

As an orthodontist, I have been fortunate to see generations of families come through our practice. I enjoy meeting each patient and getting to know them during treatment. It is a wonderful experience to improve a person’s oral health, to give them a good bite, and to transform their smile.

I have practiced for 30 years and am still a bit in awe of how a healthy and beautiful smile can improve self-esteem and make a profound, positive change that lasts a lifetime.

~ Dr. Brian W. Payne

Education

Dr. Brian Payne grew up in Santa Rosa and has spent his life in the community, but for his years at college and dental school. His father, Dr. George Payne, had opened Payne Orthodontics in 1959 and Dr. Payne decided at an early age to follow in his father’s footsteps.

He attended the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni Dental School, where he obtained his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS). This was followed by a rigorous orthodontic residency at the University of California San Francisco Dental School, where he received his Certificate in Orthodontics.

Professional Affiliations, Continuing Education, and Activities

Dr. Payne is a member of the:

Both the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists and Peninsula Orthodontic Research Group are invitation-only study groups. Composed of private practitioners and educators, the groups meet quarterly. During these meetings, the members present and discuss the latest orthodontic research, technological innovations, and methodologies. These meetings keep Dr. Payne at the leading-edge of evidence-based best practices, enabling him to provide the most up-to-date orthodontic care with predictable, stable results for his patients.

Passionate about orthodontics, in addition to being in private practice Dr. Payne has spent time teaching orthodontic residents at the University of the Pacific. He is also involved with the American Board of Orthodontics.

Beyond the Practice

Dr. Payne and his wife, Dr. Leslie Jue, who has practiced general dentistry in Santa Rosa for over 30 years, have two children: Dr. Jacqueline, an orthodontist in practice with her father and Matthew, a healthcare consultant for Ernst Young in New York City. Family dogs, Iggy and Hobbes, keep Dr. Brian and Dr. Leslie from having an empty-nest; sometimes they accompany Dr. Brian to the office, where they greet patients.

The couple spends a lot of time in Tahoe, skiing in the winter and hiking and biking in the summer. They also enjoy working in the garden and Dr. Payne can often be found woodworking in his shop.

Additionally, Dr. Payne makes time to volunteer at his alma matter, the University of the Pacific, where he teaches in the orthodontic clinic. He has also dedicated time raising money for the Santa Rosa Junior College Health Sciences building as Chairman of the Healthy Smiles for Healthy Lives Campaign. This campaign raised $500,000 to integrate digital technology into the Dr. George Payne Dental Wing, which hosts the Dental Hygiene Clinic, Pre-Clinical Laboratories, and Dental Radiology.
