Airway and TMJAirway orthodontics and TMJ care
Mouth breathing, snoring, teeth grinding and jaw pain often trace back to how the jaws grew. We evaluate airway and TMJ function as part of every orthodontic exam.

Airway-focused orthodontics
A narrow upper jaw crowds more than teeth; it narrows the nasal floor. Children who mouth breathe, snore or sleep restlessly deserve an orthodontic evaluation, because palatal expansion at the right age can widen the airway while it straightens the smile.
Our in-house CBCT imaging lets the doctors see the airway in three dimensions, and Dr. Jacqui Payne's continuing education includes sleep apnea screening. When a case needs a physician or ENT, we coordinate care rather than guessing.
TMJ appliances
Clicking, popping, morning headaches and jaw muscle pain often respond to conservative appliance therapy. We fabricate custom TMJ appliances that reposition or unload the joint, and where bite alignment is the root cause, orthodontic treatment can address it for good.

Frequently asked questions
Is an airway evaluation extra?
No. Airway assessment and TMJ evaluation are part of every free consultation at Payne Orthodontics.
Can orthodontics really help snoring?
In growing children, expanding a narrow palate can meaningfully improve nasal breathing. In adults, we screen and coordinate with physicians; orthodontics is one piece of a bigger picture, and we are honest about which piece it is.
Do you treat TMJ without braces?
Yes. Many TMJ cases are managed with an appliance alone. If bite correction would fix the cause, we will show you why before you decide.
